Valentine's Day

HUNGERING AND THIRSTING AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS
This I hope to be a weekly feature of my blog. Hope it is beneficial.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

I was overwhelmed by the scenery in Walmart's Produce department and entrance Sunday as I saw these areas filled with fresh flower bouquets, decorated cookies, desserts and etc. for Valentines Day. RED EVERYWHERE. It's certainly a testimony to the power of love. I am awed by the wisdom of God in creating man and woman for the purpose of multiplying the earth with children and providing companionship for the man and woman.
After God created the universe and everything in it, Adam named the animals but Genesis 2:20 says” but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man and he slept; then He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh at that place. And God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. And the man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh” '
Ephesians 5:22-33 “Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as for the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless.
So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church because we are members of His body. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each individual among you also love his own wife even as himself ; and let the wife see to it that she respect her husband.”
Ken and I are studying Ephesians in our Sunday morning class and I was struck by the wording and meaning in Ephesians 5:22-33 regarding husbands and wives treating each other and comparing it to Christ and the church (church-the believers who have been called out by being obedient to Christ-the called out). In the text the passage from Genesis 2:24 is included.
When I think of the husband/wife, man/woman relationship, I also think of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecoming; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things endures all things. Love never fails;
1Corinthians 13:13 says “But now abide faith, hope, love, these three;but the greatest of these is love.” As a Christian toward other Christians and as a wife toward my husband and children, I try to keep these verses in mind. I was struck as I read Ephesians 5:28-29. “So husbands ought to also love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body.” (I'm told by my husband that in the original the concept applies to the wife loving her own husband as she loves her own body as well, although it says husband in the text here.)
February 14 is our anniversary. This year especially as Ken and I have more time together we appreciate the time that we have together.
I hope Valentines Day is a great day for you and your loved ones. Make it a great day.
